Teide National Park

A gem of Tenerife, that each tourist has to visit. Thousands of tourists visit Teide National Park every year. Due to its natural beauty, a diverse flora and fauna and 1000 endemic plants, this park is beloved by many, to the point of the park becoming a movie set, seen in multiple movies.

Another reason to visit Teide National Park is the cave of the crystals. The cave was formed as a result of volcanic activity, which created a network of underground tunnels and chambers. As the volcano cooled, water seeped into the tunnels and froze, creating the ice formations that can be seen today.

The main attraction of Teide National Park is the Teide volcano. The sleeping natural beauty attracts many tourists every year. Teide shadow is a natural phenomenon that occurs when the sun casts a shadow of the volcano on the surrounding landscape. This shadow can be seen from many different locations on the island, but the best place to see it is from the Teide summit. From here, you can see the shadow stretch out across the island, covering the entire landscape in its dark embrace.

El Drago Milenario

It is an ancient tree thought to be dating back to 1000 years ago. It is a statement of natural beauty, filled with the island’s history. El Drago Milenario is a symbol of Tenerife.

In 1917 it was named a national monument. According to the the legends of the firsts inhabitants of Tenerife – guanches, the tree has magical powers. Guanches would come to the tree and perform magical rituals under its branches.

Los Gigantes

It is a resort town in the Santiago del Teide municipality on the west coast of the Canary Island Tenerife. Its main feature are the giant rock formations, Acantilados de Los Gigantes, that rise from the sea to a height of 500-800 meters (1,640–2,625 ft) after which the town has been named. Los Gigantes means “The Giants”

Barraco del Inferno

The Barranco del Infierno is a walking trail that is located at an altitude of 1,300 meters and the trail takes approximately 3 hours and a half round trip. The route begins at 350 m above sea level, in the municipality of Adeje, in a place that constitutes a natural balcony with magnificent views of the southern landscape of the Island and with a beautiful final waterfall.

Punta de Teno

Punta de Teno is a rocky headland in the northwestern part of Tenerife, marked by a lighthouse that is hard to miss. During the golden hours of the evening Punta de Teno gives its visitors a phenomenal view of the Los Gigantes cliffs.

Road axxess to Punta de Teno is restricted, however buses and taxis can bring the tourists to enjoy the beautiful views. Tourist can also hike to Punta de Teno. The hike takes 2:30 hours and is 7,2 kilometers long, starting from Teno Alto down to Punta de Teno.

Pyramids of Guimar

The Pyramids of Güímar or Majanos de Chacona are located in the municipality of Güímar on the east coast of the island of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands archipelago, in Spain. There are six constructions in the form of stepped pyramids whose construction date is debated, although the most accepted theory dates back to the 19th century.

Despite the research, the age of the pyramids or the answer to the question of who built them were not discovered. It is argued that the pyramids were built as a temple of sun worship, by ancient civilizations in the years before the discovery. Until the Spanish conquest at the end of the 15th century, Güímar was the residence of one of the ten menceyes (kings) of Tenerife.

The Castle of St John the Baptist, also called the Black Castle, is a fort on the island of Tenerife It was the second-most important fort in the defense of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island’s capital.

It is located in the heart of the capital near the Parque Marítimo César Manrique and behind the Auditorio de Tenerife. Its construction was started in 1641 and completed in 1644. It was later rebuilt in 1765 with the addition of a cylindrical tower facing the sea. It served as a military fort until 1924. It was converted to a military museum in 1948.

Cueve del Viento

Cueve del Viento is a volcanic cavity and is also considered the most complex volcanic tube in the world, due to its morphology of several levels and passages. It was formed 27000 years ago due to the first eruptive phase of the Pico Viejo volcano next to Mount Teide.

It extends more than 17 kilometers and contains three different levels of passageways, each full of geomorphological phenomena such as lava pits and terraces.

The cave has no artificial lighting, so helmets, fitted with headlights are worn on the tour. The visitors have an opportunity to see numerous formations. The dark and silent atmosphere brings visitors into direct and natural contact with the geological phenomena.

The visit lasts two hours and is guided by professionals. The tourists hear all about the features of the unique volcanic cavity.
